BFL 2.0 Go Forward 2016 Season
The BFL had a year round playing calendar. The game playing season will correspond, roughly with the NFL pre and regular season calendar with the playoffs and championship finished by or on Super Bowl Sunday. So the rest of the year becomes off-season, just like the real NFL and the lack of activity (game play) won’t matter as we were not actually playing games during those months.
The team roster will expand to 50+3. The 50 are active players with 3 designated on game days as inactive and the remaining 3 as the drafted players that of course have no card value.
The 2015 contract value will be maintained as long as the carded season is underway, so until February 1, 2016 players will be under a 2014 contract value then on February 2 they will “advance” to the 2015 value.
1. The league calendar will now have a standard in-season and off-season. In-season will run from August 1 to January 8. Playoffs and Championship to be completed by the real life Super Bowl Sunday. Complete calendar at the end of the document.
League web address is theafl.org/ the website will track rosters, salary cap status and all transactions. www.spotrac.com/nfl/ Our salary data source is www.spotrac.com/nfl/arizona-cardinals/yearly/ and www.profootballreference.com will be used as the yearly rosters that the league cards are made from.
2. A college entry draft will occur approximately 1 week after the NFL college draft, see below for 2016 dates. The draft will happen through the website and last 3 rounds. Teams are not required to make selections and may pass. The first draft will occur on Sunday, May 9, 2016.
A separate withholding list on the team page of 3 players will hold the college draftee as well as any no card player that is withheld. (Same rule as BFL, for no card veteran players) As the rookie will not actually play in year 1 for you he will have a zero $ value for cap purposes (Remember we are behind “real time”). Once the player actually signs you will see what his contract value will be at which point by June 19 you can cut him if the hit the next year might be worth it.
It will be a timed draft that will last approximately an hour. Draft order will be the same as waiver wire.
3. Up to June 19, teams are required to stay at or below the salary cap with freedom of moves (cut, trade, waiver wire claims) within the cap and roster size parameters. On June 20, teams will be required to cut down to 65% of the NFL cap, ($93.123 of the $143.28 mil. in 2015) the newly cut players and existing waiver wire guys along with the free agents that moved to the core teams will then be eligible to be signed (college draftees are not eligible). On June 20, teams will be able to “sign” players using a waiver wire, similar to Yahoo or any other fantasy website. Teams will make selections by clicking the “Add Player” button and as yahoo, the transactions will become live after a 48-hour window of time (think of this as the player deciding to sign or not).
The order of selection will be a waiver wire similar to any fantasy site that is for year 1 a random order will be established and the #1 team has first choice, 32 second choice etc. Once a team signs a player they move to the bottom of the order. A “player decision” is based on the higher selection getting first choice, #2 second choice etc. If you are successful the website will update the roster, team and league transactions pages. A warning will be shown on the roster if over the cap.
4. The waiver signing period will last until July 30 (The last Saturday before season opens) on this date teams will be required to be at or below the salary cap. (The cap will be the NFL number, same as using the real player contract values). **A $20 mil. Penalty to the following year salary cap for failure to comply**
5. As in the BFL if a player leaves a team and is on a non-league core team and you decide to not resign him, he is lost to the league. Obviously if the player signs with a non-league core team and you resign him he stays on your roster.
6. Waiver wire position rotates 1-X with the team that just selected in the one position going to last on the next claim attempt, and every other team moving up in order... If the team with ww1 does not select, they maintain the one slot until they do...
7. Waiver claims are available throughout the year as long as cap and roster limit are maintained. See calendar below for specific dates.
8. Teams must play 1 game a season. 2 consecutive years with zero games played, team is disbanded or given to new owner.
9. Teams may play each other no more than two times a year during the regular season.
10. Trade deadline of Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend (November 29, 2015) without players passing through waivers. Trades are possible from Monday after Thanksgiving to January 1, but players must pass through waivers. Absolutely no trades between January 1 and Super Bowl Sunday.
11. MVP & ROY awards named after the conclusion of the season on Super Bowl Sunday by league vote.
